Israelis have assembled around the country to remember two years since the Hamas-conducted assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions continued in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.

The incident led to more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured away to Gaza as captives. It was the most most lethal day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel answered by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are regarded as reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our violent adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister added on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "achieve all the aims of the war: the release of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will never again present a danger to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled state remembrance events until October 16th - after the end of the festive season - but events still were held across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of people who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was aired on Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was respected throughout the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas representatives met in the North African coastal city of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to examine the conditions of the proposal.

A high-ranking representative familiar with the discussions said that an evening round of negotiations commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source explained the morning session ended without tangible results, because of disagreements over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not resume combat after the initial stage of the agreement.

He commented that the discussions are "tough and have yet to achieve any real breakthrough," but mentioned that intermediaries are working hard to reduce the differences between the two sides.

Essential Matters in Talks

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The swap of the hostages still held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies distribution
  • After-conflict governance of the area

Civilian Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square previously, young a woman - whose brother survived the attack on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were lost their lives and many more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - shared: "No place appears as home now and until each abducted person return no one will be secure."

"Once we see everyone home once more, we can feel relief again. Then we can start to recover," she concluded.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in the capital, people gathered to demonstrate their backing for the families of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty continue in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Protester a participant explained: "We need do whatever arrangement required for the abducted to come back home. But we really want guarantees that we will be secure."

Research now consistently show that about 70% of Israelis prefer the conflict to end in return for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of Nova festival, grieving people assembled to pay their respects.

From that location, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers indicated the intense Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the urban center, bombardments were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, sector and locality areas and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"When the dusk arrives, the fear arrives with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose young son was died by an Israeli aerial attack last year, described.

"My family are terrified of the air strikes. During nighttime we are resting together, clinging, especially my smallest child who places his head on me all night."

"Constantly we monitor the reports to see developments. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be completed and that the war will return to us."

Health Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area said it had received the remains of several people by the daytime, including a trio killed in an Israeli attack in the southern area.

Another medical facility in the southern city of Khan Younis reported additional dead people had been brought there. An individual was killed by Israeli troops while attempting to get help to the south, medical staff reported.

The region's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
