Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the player will be OK after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that reassures me, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities released security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries according to reports.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday in the area between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he attends every game. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He signed with Arizona in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
