Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the US has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Additional Developments

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.

It said debris landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
