Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this charming family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
